Monitor first, then inspect
Compare monthly generation with the same season, not with a single sunny day. A gradual fall can reflect monsoon clouds, winter haze, dust, shade growth or equipment trouble. Monitoring alerts help, but a missing internet connection does not always mean the plant stopped.
From the ground, look for loose cables, vegetation, water paths, corrosion or new shade. Arrange trained inspection of electrical terminations, protection devices, earthing and the mounting structure at the interval recommended by the installer and manufacturer.
Clean for the site you have
Dust, bird droppings and nearby construction can reduce output. Rain may clean loose dirt. There is no universal weekly schedule. Check the array and generation, then clean when soiling is material.
Use safe roof access, plain water where suitable and soft tools recommended by the module maker. Avoid walking on modules, harsh chemicals, abrasive brushes and thermal shock from cold water on very hot glass.

When output suddenly falls
- Check the monitoring time range and internet connection.
- Read the inverter status without opening covers.
- Check whether the grid is down.
- Photograph the status and note the time.
- Contact the installer or authorised service team.
Do not reset protection repeatedly or touch damaged cables. Isolate only if you know and can follow the documented shutdown procedure.
Common questions
How often should panels be cleaned?
There is no single schedule. Local dust, rain, tilt and bird activity decide it. Use generation data and a safe visual check.
Are solar panels maintenance-free?
No. They have no fuel and few moving parts, but the system still needs monitoring, cleaning when soiled, and periodic electrical and structural inspection.
