How the estimate works
We divide your estimated annual electricity use by a solar yield assumption for your state, then round to the nearest 0.5 kW. Roof capacity uses 90 sq ft per kW. If your entered roof is smaller, the tool limits the system and tells you.
The installed cost uses a broad range of ₹55,000 to ₹85,000 per kW. Larger systems use lower rates for each kW. A selected battery adds a planning allowance of ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 per kWh. Actual battery quotes vary widely.
Annual savings value solar energy at 85% of your entered tariff, or 90% with a battery, and cap savings below your present annual bill. This allows for fixed charges, seasonal mismatch and export terms. It does not model tariff inflation, finance interest, panel degradation or major replacement costs.
Subsidy assumptions
For a residential connection, the calculator applies the published PM Surya Ghar CFA formula: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the next 1 kW in standard states. Higher rates apply to the listed special category states and territories. It applies no extra CFA above 3 kW.
